Rough-in is one of the most important stages of any extension. It’s when all the electrical wiring, conduits, and wall boxes are installed before the walls are insulated and plastered. Once the walls are closed, making changes becomes much more difficult and expensive, so getting everything right at this stage is essential.
The Job
For this extension in Bayswater, Perth Complete Electrical completed the full renovation electrical rough-in, preparing the home for the next stages of construction.
We began by installing 32mm HD conduit and Telstra conduit to the laundry wall before running it underground to the under-house area. This provides a protected pathway for future services while keeping cables safely hidden from the weather and accidental damage.
Next, we installed conduit from the kitchen island bench to the rear of the oven wall. This allows for future power connections if the homeowner decides to add appliances or extra power points later, without opening up finished walls.
To complete the rough-in, we installed conduit and recessed wall boxes throughout the extension. These keep everything neatly positioned and ready for power points, switches, and other electrical fittings once the walls are finished.

Thinking Ahead Pays Off
The best rough-in work isn’t just about getting cable from point A to point B. It’s about anticipating what a homeowner might want from a space in five or ten years, not just what they’ve asked for today. A conduit run to the island bench costs very little to install now, but could save a homeowner a plastering and painting job entirely if they ever want power there later. That’s the kind of detail that separates a rough-in done properly from one that just ticks the box.
